Formalitäten at Oldenburg Universität | |
Beside registering there are a few other formalities that will help you to participate at any offer for students. | |
Enrolment | ![]() |
You will be notified by the letter of admission how the enrolment works and what documents you need to hand in. | |
Access to the library | |
To lend books or videos in the library (BIS) you need a user‘s card. You will get this card at the service desk near the entrance of the library. You will have to bring your passport, your confirmation of the citizen‘s office (Meldebestätigung vom Bürgeramt), and your student card. The library card costs 5€. Access to Internet (Computer labs) | |
Following enrolment you will receive an e-mail address (firstname.surname@mail.uni-oldenburg.de). You will have to pick up your access authorisation (user name, password) at the computer lab management (Hochschulrechenzentrum, HRZ) in room A 2 3-301. With your authorisation you may use the study management system StudIP, all public computers on campus as well as wire and wireless Internet accesses. If you have any questions in this concern you will get answers at the HRZ. | |
Formalities at the Citizen‘s Office

| In the days following your arrival you will have to take care of a few formalities, especially your registration with the citizens office | |
Citizen´s Office
| |
You have to register at the citizen’s office, Pferdemarkt 14, within one week after your arrival in Oldenburg. Please bring your passport, visa and your new address in Oldenburg. You will receive a confirmation of registration, which you have to keep with your documents. If you have any questions please contact the International Student Office. If you change address in Oldenburg you will have to inform the citizen‘s office within one week of your change of residence (Ummeldung). In case you stay in another municipal you will have to care for all formalities with the particular community. If you move to another city or leave Germany please inform the citizen’s office. | |
Residence permit | |
Students from the EU do only have to go to the citizen‘s office. The office for foreigners (Ausländerbüro) will send you the adequate document. Students coming from non-EU countries need a residence permit to study in Germany. You have to apply for the residence permit prior to the expiring of your visa, at latest three months after your arrival in Germany at the office for foreigners. The office is in the building of the city’s administration, Pferdemarkt 14. | ![]() |
The International Student Office supports you with all formalities concerning your residence permit. Please keep the following documents ready:

Working / Jobbing | |
| The residence permit for students only allows you to study in Germany. As an international student you may take up a job for 90 days full time or 180 days part time a year. These restrictions do not count for students coming from the old EU-countries (until May 1, 2004). All students may work part time as student assistant or academic assistant at the university. | |
