| As soon as you receive your admission to study at Oldenburg University you have to organise your stay in Germany: |

Visa |
| |
You will need a student visa to enter Germany (no tourist visa or Schengen visa!). You will not need such a visa if you are a citizen of the EU, Australia, Honduras, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Canada, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, South Korea, or the US.
To apply for a student visa you will need the following documents:
It is best if you can manage to contact the German embassy or consulate in your home country as soon as possible since the processing of visa applications will take some time (in some cases up to threemonth). |
| |
| You will find general information concerning your visa application also on:

Health Insurance
You have to get health insurance in Germany. It is essential that the insurance covers all costs in case of illness. If you are coming from the EU or a country that has concluded an agreement on social insurance with Germany (Bosnia-Herzegowina, Israel, Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Turkey, Tunisia, Hungary) and are member of a state health insurance, please bring your European health insurance card (EHIC) or an equivalent to Germany. |
| |
If you are privately covered by insurance you will need a proof of the insurance company showing the unlimited coverage also in Germany in case of illness – including dental treatment. If the above is not applicable you have to get a health insurance in Oldenburg. |

| The costs for a student health insurance in Germany are about 78 € per month. Further information as well as addresses of insurance companies will be provided during orientation week. | |

You should start to look for a place to stay in Oldenburg already in your home country. As an international student you may apply online at the student service (Studentenwerk) for a place in one of the halls of residence. You will find the proposal here. Alongside managing the halls of residence the student service also runs an accommodation bureau for foreign students. |
